Gomez, Women's XC Recognized

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Senior Kinsey Gomez and the entire women's cross country team have been recognized by the U. S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for their excellence in the classroom.

Gomez was one of just three female cross country athletes from the Big Sky to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors.  To qualify, an athlete must compile a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top-25 at regionals or as an All-American at the national meet.

Gomez was incredible for the Vandals all season, finishing in the top-3 in four of her five meets.  She won the WSU Invitational to open the season and the Montana Invitational a month later.  She finished second at the Santa Clara Invitational and earned third at the Big Sky Championships.  Gomez placed 17th at the NCAA Regional Championships in Seattle, earning All-Region honors.

The team was also recognized by the USTFCCCA for academic excellence.  As a squad, the Vandal women posted a team GPA of 3.61, the best in the Big Sky for either gender.

In all, six women's teams and seven men's teams from the Big Sky earned USTFCCCA All-Academica accolades.
