The University of Idaho women's golf team is the preseason Big Sky favorite after receiving 10 of 11 first-place votes in a polling of the league's coaches. The Vandals had 120 points with Northern Arizona second with 106.
Idaho was led last fall by freshman Michelle Kim, who was chosen Big Sky Golfer of the Year three times.
“It's truly an honor to be recognized for a solid fall season,” coach Lisa Johnson said. “With the second half of the season remaining, the team remains committed to working hard every day on targeted aspects of their games.”
Following Idaho and NAU in the poll are Northern Colorado, Sacramento State, Weber State, Montana State, Portland State, Southern Utah, Eastern Washington, Montana, North Dakota and Idaho State.
Idaho opens the spring season Feb. 14-15 at the All There August Challenge at San Marcos, Texas. The season concludes with the Big Sky Championship Tournament April 18-20 at Boulder Creek Golf Course in Nevada.
“Our focuses this spring are on enjoying the process and playing with freedom,” Johnson said.
