RENO, Nev.—The Idaho Vandals women's tennis team fell, 4-3, at Nevada on Tuesday. The loss ended Idaho's two-match winning streak, dropping them to 9-6 on the season.

Lucia Badillos and Marianna Petrei opened the day for Idaho with a 6-0 win in No. 3 doubles. Nevada came back to win the next two pairings, to take the doubles point to start.

“It was a tough loss for us today,” head coach Mariana Cobra said. “Nevada is a good team, especially on its home courts. Starting singles behind 1-0 was tough on us. I was proud of how we fought back. We knew they had a really strong lineup.”

Idaho was able to get an early jump in singles, winning the first two courts. Badillos defeated Delaney Phanco, 6-0, 6-1 to open on the No. 6 court. Belen Barcenilla followed up with a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 5 position, giving Idaho a 2-1 advantage.

“Getting the two early singles points helped us get back into the match,” Cobra noted. “Everyone fought hard today. We just had a few points go the other way and that was the difference. I was happy with how the team fought. I think we are just one step away from winning these 4-3 matches. These losses are always tough, but we took some positives away from it.”

Nevada's Blaga Delic tied the match at 2-2 with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Maria Tavares. Freshman Celine Kotes put the Vandals back in front for a period of time with her 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory on the No. 4 court. Nevada's top two players, Claudia Herrero and Sheila Morales, each closed the final two courts in three sets for Wolf Pack.

The Vandals continue on the road for the next three matches. Idaho will take on Sonoma on Thursday (2 p.m.), Big Sky rival Sacramento State on Saturday and close the road-stretch with San Jose State on Sunday.
