SACRAMENTO—Idaho's six-match winning streak was snapped on Friday by Sacramento State, 5-2. The Vandals fell behind early, needing to win four singles matches to claim the win.
Sacramento State (6-10) opened play winning two of the last three doubles matches. The Vandals began doubles with a 6-0 win from the pairing of Jackson Varney and Artem Vasheshnikov. The Hornets fought back in succession with wins in No. 2 and No. 3 play.
Idaho (11-3) found itself down 3-0 after the first two singles matches. Dom Miller defeated Mark Kovacs, 6-1, 6-0, on the No. 4 line. Mikus Losbergs outplayed Odon Barta, 6-3, 6-2 in No. 1 play.
Felipe Fonseca put Idaho on the board with his 6-3, 7-6(3) win in No. 2 singles. Lucas Coutinho notched Idaho's second point with a 0-6, 6-2, 6-4 win on the No. 6 court. Courts No. 5 and No. 3 went the way of the Hornets. Christopher Clayton clinched the match for Sac State, taking the No. 5 court, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, over Vasheshnikov.
Idaho next heads to the state of Utah for a pair of matches. The Vandals will take on Brigham Young on Mar. 25 and then travel to Utah State.
