STANFORD, Calif. – Senior Kinsey Gomez closed out the nigh with an incredible performance in the women's 10k, setting a new school record as Idaho opened up competition at the Stanford Track and Field Invitational. Several other Vandals competed against a stacked field at Stanford, showing some impressive marks across the board, while two athletes also competed at the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
Gomez took third overall in the 10k, completing the race with a personal-best time of 33:23.59, just eight seconds off the pace of the winner. Gomez shattered the previous school record of 33:34.85, set by Patsy Sharples during the 1981 season.
Ben Ayesu-Attah earned fourth in the 400-meters with a time of 47.59 seconds. Ian Middleton took part in the javelin invitational competition, placing eighth with a throw of 66.63 meters, setting a personal-best. Derek Haas took sixth in the javelin collegiate division with a throw of 59.35 meters. Dusan Jevtic finished eighth in the high jump at 1.96 meters.
Drew Thompson placed 12th in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal-best time of 15.00 seconds. Thompson followed that performance up with a seventh place finish in the high jump with a leap of 1.96 meters.
In San Francisco, Nathan Stark set a 14-second personal best in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:16.74. Marquita Palmer earned 12th in the 800-meters at 2:13.46.
The Vandals wrap up competition at the Stanford Track and Field Invitational on Saturday. Several Vandals will also be competing in the Montana Duals on Saturday.
