Thompson Leads the Pack

GREELEY, Colo. – Drew Thompson got things started at the Big Sky Championships for the Vandals on Wednesday, as he leads the pack in the decathlon after day one.

Thompson recorded 3553 points on the day and is 39 points ahead of Portland State's Kevin Robinson heading into the second half of the competition.

He began the day with a personal-best, taking second overall in the 100-meter dash at 11.16 seconds.  His previous PR was 11.37 seconds, set at the Mt. SAC Relays/CA Invitational Multi Events last month.

Thompson later won the high jump portion of the competition, setting an outdoor personal-best with a leap of 2.02 meters.

Thompson finished eighth in the long jump with a leap of 6.27 meters.  He also took eighth in the shot put with a throw of 11.11 meters and finished ninth in the 400-meter dash at 52.40 seconds, tying his personal-best.

Competition continues tomorrow, beginning with the 110-meter hurdles at 9 a.m. Pacific.  Check back later in the day to see where Thompson finishes.
