Thompson Takes Fourth

GREELEY, Colo.  – Drew Thompson gave it his all at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships, earning a fourth-place finish in an incredibly competitive decathlon.

He set a personal-best with 6,530 points, a 234 point improvement.  He finished just 25 points behind the winner, Mason Storm of Montana State.  Thompson set or tied seven outdoor PR's in 11 total events.

Thompson got going right away, winning the 110-meter hurdles at 14.90 seconds and scoring 862 points.  Thompson was the only competitor to break 15 seconds.

He then shattered his discus personal-best, going 33.96 meters and taking fifth.  Thompson then set an outdoor personal-best in the pole vault, clearing 4.00 meters for just the second time in his career.  The previous time happened indoors, during the heptathlon competition at the Big Sky Championships in February.

Thompson placed 10th in the javelin with a throw of 40.94 meters and finished 12th in the 1500-meters with a time of 5:10.87.

Thompson was the clubhouse leader after the first day of competition.  He set or tied three outdoor personal-bests on the day and won the high jump portion of the competition.

Individual events begin tomorrow morning.  Check back with GoVandals.com for the complete results.
