SALT LAKE CITY—Idaho junior Marianna Petrei continued her high-level of play capping the weekend with the singles title at the ITA Mountain Regional Championship on Sunday. She and doubles partner Lucia Badillos also completed a run that ended in the final match.

Petrei, ranked 71st in the nation, strung together four wins to finish the weekend a perfect 6-0. She picked up on Friday with a comeback win over Anastasia Abramyan of BYU. She breezed past UNLV's En-Pei Haung in the semifinals to take on No. 87 Bianca Mok of Denver. Petrei slipped back Mok, 6-3, 6-4, to get to the finals.

The Back-to-back Big Sky MVP matched up with Colorado freshman Linda Haung in the championship. Play was tight in the first set with Petrei able to fend off the opposition, 7-5. She closed out the competition with a 6-4 win.

Petrei and Badillos picked up three wins on the weekend to earn a spot in the championship match. The due topped Montana's pairing before scoring a close 8-7(3) victory over Northern Arizona's Eirene Granville and Brandy Walker. Idaho faced a pair of Denver teams in back-to-back matches. Petrei and Badillos advanced out of the semifinals with a 4-6, 7-5, 10-5 win. The pair fell to Denver's Julia O'Loughlin and Mok in the finals, 6-3, 6-3.

The win qualifies Petrei for the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, Nov. 1-5. The tournament is billed as the only intercollegiate event to feature competitors from all five divisions for a national championship.

Petrei and Badillos await word on possible entry into the ITA National Fall Championships. The team will need to be selected as a wildcard or receive an at-large bid.
