INDIAN WELLS, Calif.--Idaho junior Marianna Petrei wrapped up wer fall season at the ITA Fall National Championships on Thursday. Her tremendous fall season closed with a first-round consolation loss.

The Udine, Italy, native, ended her tournament with a loss to Syracuse's Gabriela Knutson. Knutson, ranked No. 38 in the ITA Preseason Singles rankings, took the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.

Petrei, the back-to-back Big Sky MPV, had an impressive fall to open the 2017-18 season. She picked up wins over top-ranked opponents in a run to the consolation finals at the Rivera/ITA Women's All-American Championships. Petrei carried her momentum into her next tournament, claiming the single's title at the ITA Mountain Regional Championship.

Petrei will now turn her focus to the spring season. The Vandals will be looking for their fifth consecutive conference championship. Idaho has won the last four Big Sky titles since rejoining the conference in 2014. The Vandals departed the Western Athletic Conference after winning the league in 2014.

The season will continue for Idaho after the New Year.
