LAST TIME OUT: Idaho dominated Washington State, 91-64, in the annual Battle of the Palouse. The historic rivalry, now up to 113 consecutive seasons, is the longest continuously running rivalry West of the Mississippi River.
The Vandals came out hot and stayed hot all night long. Idaho took a quick 22-6 lead early and never looked back. The Cougars, who entered the game receiving votes in both the AP and Coaches' Polls, cut the deficit to single digits midway through the first half, but Idaho closed strong to take a 19-point lead into the break. WSU would trim the deficit to 14 twice in the second, but that's as close as it got before the Vandals pulled away for the convincing win.
Idaho's 91 points are the second most for the Vandals in rivalry history. The 27-point win was the third largest for Idaho in Battle history, and the largest since the 1962-63 season. It's also the largest margin of victory for the Vandals against a team in the Pac 12/10/8 in team history. The league was created in 1968.
REMATCH: Idaho and CSUB have already played once this year, in the semifinal of the Great Alaska Shootout. The Roadrunners came out on top that night, 64-62, with some last-minute heroics. Idaho led late but CSUB knocked down a corner 3-pointer with just seconds remaining to take the win.
Idaho is 4-3 all-time against CSUB, including a 1-2 mark in Bakersfield. The squads have met twice in a season twice before, splitting the meetings in both previous instances.
