Showdown with Hornets on Tap

SACRAMENTO—Idaho women's basketball makes its way to Sacramento on Saturday for a showdown with the Hornets. Vandal head coach Jon Newlee will have his first shot at becoming Idaho's all-time win leader.

Quotable: "It is going to be crazy there like always. We are going to have to take care of the basketball. We are going to have to block out. They [Sacramento State] crash the boards like crazy. They predicate their entire offense on trying to get 100 shots a game, which means they are trying to get shots and offensive boards.We have to attack the rim. We cannot get into a 3-point shooting contest with one of the best 3-point teams in the country."

About Idaho: The Vandals recovered from a 15-point first quarter whole in Thursday's 72-66 win at Portland State. The Vandals have won its last three road games. The team is averaging 82.7 ppg game in that span. Mikayla Ferenz and Taylor Pierce are both scoring more than 20 ppg in the same frame.

About the Opponent: The Hornets are second in the NCAA with 11.3 3FG per game. Sac State saw its two-game win streak come to an end at EWU on Thursday, 72-65.

The Match-Up: Idaho has won the last two meetings with the Hornets. Idaho used 13 3-pointers to down Sac State last time out. Ali Forde scored a team-high 23 points, leading five Vandals in double figures.

Comeback: Idaho's 15-point comeback at Portland State was the largest of the season. Idaho twice fought back from 13-point deficits on its way to wins at Southern Utah and against Weber State. 

Taken: Idaho set a season-high with nine steals, last at Portland State The Vandals also scored a season-high 23 points off turnovers with nine steals at Southern Utah. 

Keep away: Idaho's 276 turnovers this season 6rank 21st fewest in the NCAA. It's 13.1 per game are least in the Big Sky and 20th nationally. 

Charitable: Idaho is ranked 22nd in the nation with a 76.8 free throw percentage, second in the Big Sky.

Ball Control: Idaho ranks second in the Big Sky with an assist/turnover ratio of 1.10.

RPI: Idaho's 143 RPI ranks third in the Big Sky. Montana State (62) and Northern Colorado (102) lead the conference.
