Wild Night in the Dome

Vandals earn the draw in front of record crowd

MOSCOW, Idaho – In front of a record-setting crowd in the Kibbie Dome, Idaho earned the 1-1 draw with in-state rival Boise State on Friday night.  4,171 fans packed the Dome, the largest crowd for an NCAA women's soccer game played indoors.

"What more can you ask for?" head coach Derek Pittman commented after the game.  "Tremendous crowd, so thankful for all the fans, all the students, all the faculty, everybody that was able to come out.  I know there were a lot of people that put a tremendous amount of effort into getting those people out here, and we gave them a show.

"I'm really proud of our players for fighting to the bitter end to get that result.  To get that goal that sent it into overtime and then ultimately grinding out a result against a very good Boise State team."

The Vandals needed every single second of the game clock to level the score, netting the game-tying goal with 0.4 seconds to play.  After a foul near midfield gave Idaho a free kick with the clock stopped on 4.3 seconds, Taylor Brust sent in a perfect ball that eventually found the feet of Kelly Dopke who handled the rest just before the buzzer.

The two overtimes featured back-and-forth play, with Idaho's Makayla Presgrave getting called to action multiple times.  The junior transfer stood her ground, keeping the Broncos off the board in the extra frames.

Boise State took the lead in the 74th minute, with Baylee Blaser scoring her third goal of the season.  After a tough no-call led to a turnover near the middle of the field, the Broncos pushed forward with numbers and were able to finish from close range after a scrum inside the six-yard box.

Both teams moved to 1-1-1 on the season.
