Vandals Come Back

Take down Sacramento State at home

MOSCOW, Idaho – A 15-0 run late capped a huge comeback win for Idaho as the Vandals took down the Hornets of Sacramento State, 69-68, in the Cowan Spectrum.

THE GAME

Both teams came out strong, with Sacramento State taking a 27-23 lead with 4:24 to go in the first.  The Vandal offense got hotter from there, closing the half on a 14-2 run to take the eight-point advantage into the break.

The Hornets took control in the second half, getting up by as many as 11 points.  Sacramento State took a commanding 65-54 lead with 7:42 to play, and then the magic happened.

Idaho turned it on to the tune of a 15-0 run.  Victor Sanders got it started with a nice bucket from the baseline, followed by a 3-pointer from Chad Sherwood.  A pair of free throws from Jordan Scott made it a four point game, then this happened.

Perrion Callandret leveled the score moments later with a long jumper, and Scott and Brayon Blake closed things off with a pair of buckets late.

Sacramento State knocked down a 3-pointer to make it a one-point game with 50 seconds left, but the Vandal defense held strong on the final possession to seal the win.

THE NAME

Brayon Blake.  Blake notched his fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 boards.  The Vandals are now 4-1 in games that he does so this season.

He also made a major impact during Idaho's comeback.  Aside from his game-winning bucket late, Blake was also instrumental in the setup to the highlight-reel dunk from Callandret, helping to keep the possession alive moments before by flying into the stands.

THE NOTES

Idaho moves to 2-1 in Big Sky play.

Only one other team has shot 40+ percent from 3-point range this season.  CSU Bakersfield topped 40 percent in Bakersfield in December.

Chad Sherwood hit one 3-pointer on the night, taking sole possession of seventh place in program history with 138 career 3's.
