Merino Lifts Vandals Past Bengals

Scores OT game-winner

MOSCOW, Idaho – After threatening all game long, Myah Merino was finally able to get one through in the 93rd minute, lifting Idaho (7-6-2, 4-1-1) past Idaho State (2-12-0, 1-6-0), 1-0, in overtime in the Kibbie Dome.

The Vandals kept the Bengals under pressure all game long, especially in the closing minutes of regulation and overtime.  Idaho would go on to outshoot Idaho State, 26-17, including 12-8 in shots on goal.

The big break came less than three minutes into overtime.  Taylor Brust picked up the ball near midfield and sent in a lofted pass over the ISU defense.  Merino tracked it well, and was able to chip it over the goalkeeper for the win.  Merino had been strong all night.  She took seven shots, including four on target, on the game.

Makayla Presgrave had another outstanding game in goal.  She made eight saves, setting a new season-high, in her sixth shutout of the year.

The Vandals will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday at 11 a.m., with the Weber State Wildcats coming to the Dome.
