ABOUT SOUTHERN UTAH: The Thunderbirds are coming off their first victory, a 48-27 victory against Sacramento State. Southern Utah claimed the 2017 Big Sky Championship and advanced to the FCS Playoffs for the second time in three years. The Thunderbirds had 22 All-Big Sky honorees last season, including 11 returning for this season. Among the returners is offensive lineman Zach Larsen, a 2017 All-American.
All-Time Series: Idaho leads 1-0. The Vandals beat the Thunderbirds 43-10 in the only previous meeting, Sept. 3, 1994, in Cedar City, Utah.
HOMECOMING: Homecoming is a week-long event focused on the traditions of the University of Idaho and honoring the passion and excitement of alumni as they return to their alma mater. The week is punctuated by Friday night's serpentine through campus, led by the Sounds of Idaho Marching Band, culminating by the annual bonfire and fireworks show. The 110th Annual Homecoming Parade takes place Saturday at 10 a.m. on Main Street. For a full list of events, visit
uidaho.edu/homecoming.
KRAMER COMES HOME: Vandal legend and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jerry Kramer will be back on campus this week as the grand marshal of the 110th Annual U of I Homecoming Parade. Kramer will also be at midfield for the coin toss prior to kickoff Saturday. The Sandpoint native, and 1958 graduate of the U of I, was enshrined Aug. 4, as a member of the 2018 class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio.
VANDAL TAILGATE:Â New for fans attending Idaho home football games this year is the Vandal Tailgate, located in the parking lot west of the Kibbie Dome, just beyond the powered RV spaces. The pregame gathering place features local food vendors, family-friendly activities and Vandal-themed entertainment. The Vandal Tailgate opens three hours prior to kickoff of each home game.
AS CLOSE AS IT GETS: Idaho lost to Montana State last week 24-23, the Vandals' first one-point game since a 21-20 loss at Virginia in 2011. It was Idaho's first one-point decision in regulation since its 43-42 victory in the 2009 Humanitarian Bowl against Bowling Green, featuring a Vandal touchdown and game-winning two-point conversion with four seconds remaining. Idaho has now played 37 one-point games in program history, posting a 21-16 record in such games. Just 10 of Idaho's one-point games have come in the last 30 years. The game last week in Bozeman was the fourth meeting between the Vandals and Bobcats to be determined by one point, the most of any Idaho opponent.
