PRINCEVILLE, Hawaii - Enrique Marin shot a 4-under 68 to lead Idaho men's golf Sunday, in the first round of the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational. Marin is tied for eighth individually, while the Vandals are tied for 17th as a team at 6-over (294).
"Enrique was obviously a highlight for us," said head coach
David Nuhn. "He's very comfortable on this golf course and the conditions today were good so he was able to go after it and shoot a low number."
Last year at the same event, Marin shot 4-under for the tournament to tie for 32nd, including an opening-round 69. The senior has finished in the top 25 of every tournament so far this year.
The Vandals are within seven strokes of the top 10, as seventh through 19th place are separated by just 10 strokes.
"We were really close to a solid team score but had to take a couple of triples and a quad," Nuhn said. "I would say we were right there where we could have broken par if we just didn't let a couple of holes go sideways. If we go out tomorrow and battle hard, we can get back some of the strokes we lost today and be right in the thick of it."
The second round tees off Monday, with an 8 a.m. HT shotgun start.
