All-Time Series: First meeting
Â
THE GAME THAT NEVER WAS: Saturday will mark the first official meeting between Idaho and Florida, but it is not the Vandals' first trip to Gainesville. The teams were set square off Aug. 30, 2014, but the game was canceled due to unsafe field conditions following more than four hours of lightning delays, accompanied by torrential rains. Initially kickoff was set for 7 p.m., but lightning caused a nearly-three-hour delay. At roughly 10 p.m., Idaho booted the opening kickoff, which was returned 64 yards before Bradley Njoku and Jayshawn Jordan made a touchdown-saving tackle. It would be the game's only play. More lightning struck and the game was delayed again. Ultimately, around midnight, it was declared a no contest as continued rainfall made the field conditions unsafe.
Â
FULL CIRCLE: Idaho seniors
Dorian Clark and
David Ungerer were slated to make their collegiate debuts in the 2014 game at Florida. Clark and Ungerer both made the trip as true freshmen, and will now return to Gainesville for the final game of their careers. Clark, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., has 32 tackles and six pass breakups at cornerback this year. Ungerer is having a career year at wide receiver, leading Idaho with 66 catches, 692 receiving yards and 1,048 all-purpose yards.
Â
SAUNDERS CLOSING STRONG: Senior running back
Isaiah Saunders broke into Idaho's top 10 for career rushing yards last week, after running for 123 yards against Montana - Saunders' third 100-yard game of the season. He now ranks 10th all-time with 2,155 yards in his career and is within 90 yards of jumping three more spots to seventh. Saunders has broken off the longest run of his career in consecutive weeks. A 43-yard touchdown against North Dakota was his longest carry until he ripped off a 60-yard run against Montana.
Â
TOP-25 WIN: North Dakota entered the Nov. 3 meeting with the Vandals ranked No. 25 in the AFCA FCS Coaches' Poll. Idaho's come-from-behind 31-27 victory marked its first win since 2007 over a team ranked in either poll (media or coaches) in either the FCS or FBS, when the FBS Vandals beat nationally-ranked FCS Cal Poly, 20-13. The last time Idaho had beaten a ranked opponent at its own level was 1995.
Â
LAST TIME OUT: Montana retained the Little Brown Stein with a 46-27 win over Idaho Saturday, at the Kibbie Dome, handing the Vandals their only home loss of the season. The game was played in front of 14,571 fans – Idaho's largest home attendance in more than four years. The Vandals scored first on a 38-yard field goal from
Cade Coffey, but Montana rattled off the next 29 points in a span of 12 minutes and 18 seconds.
Â
DOME SWEET DOME: Idaho finished its 2018 home slate with a 4-1 record. It matches the 2016 squad's 4-1 mark for the best home winning percentage since 1996 when the Vandals went 5-0 in the Dome - their last year without a home loss. Idaho football has recorded six unbeaten home seasons since the Kibbie Dome opened in 1975 (1976, 1982, 1988, 1994, 1995 and 1996).
