GREELEY, Colo.— No. 2 Idaho volleyball (22-9, 15-3) advances to the semifinals of the Big Sky Tournament after serving a sweep (25-19; 25-20; 25-22) to No. 7 seed, Montana, Thursday at the Bank of Colorado Arena.
Senior
Sarah Sharp led Idaho with 12 kills on a .355 hitting percentage.
Alycia Wodke had two aces and 20 digs, pacing the Vandals in the back row. Setter,
Haylee Mathis recorded 31 assists and seven digs while redshirt freshman
Nikki Ball finished with four blocks.
SET ONE SUMMARY
A tight start to the first set saw Idaho and Montana trading leads, but Idaho used a 5-0 run midway through the set to give the Vandals a three-point edge, 11-8. Idaho would maintain its lead to take the first set.
SET TWO SUMMARY
From the start of the second, neither team held more than a one-point lead. It was a quick spark fueled by a kill from Sharp that ended with a 10-6 Idaho advantage. The Vandals held on as the Grizzlies fought back, winning the set 25-20.
SET THREE SUMMARY
Montana was not going to go away easy as they took an early 3-7 lead. A kill by Carman knotted the game as both teams battled close until the Vandals pull ahead, 11-9. The score was tied 22-22 before the Vandals would score three- straight points to end the match victorious.
NEXT UP
Idaho will face either No. 6 seed Northern Colorado or No. 3 Weber State in the semifinals of the Big Sky Tournament Friday at 6:05 p.m. (Pacific).
