MOSCOW, Idaho—The Idaho women's basketball team begins long-awaited 2018-19 regular season Tuesday at 6 p.m. inside Memorial Gym.
The Vandals are coming off a 19-14 season from the 2017-18, that included a finish in second in Big Sky action along with a trip to the WBI postseason tournament. Last season, the Matadors (8-8) finished fifth in Big West Conference and earned a trip to the NCAA Tournament where they met defending national champions, Norte Dame. The Fighting Irish ended CSUN's season and the Matador's finished 19-16 on the year.
The Matadors return the majority of last year's squad (10), including four starters and bring in five fresh faces.
Idaho returns nationally ranked guards and 2018-19 All-Big Sky selections,
Mikayla Ferenz and
Taylor Pierce along with five other lettermen. The team has six new faces this season, four freshmen and two transfers.
The Vandals also were tabbed as preseason conference favorites in both the coaches and media polls while also receiving votes in the USA Today Coaches' Poll.
The Vandals swept through its exhibition meeting defeating Division II Saint Martin's 108-84 Oct. 28 and NAIA Lewis-Clark Friday, 97-55.
