RESULTS
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Idaho cross country wrapped up its season at the 2018 NCAA West Regional Cross Country Championships on Friday, with both sides doing what they did all year long: beating their ranks.
"I thought the team ran great today, and they really ran as a team," said director of track and field/cross country,
Tim Cawley. "I was proud of them today, they all put in a great effort.
"We had some young kids step up today and make some big improvements to get into the top-five. And overall, the team ran well, just really solid. I'm excited with where we're headed and how things ended this year. We ended on a good note and we're excited to keep this train moving forward."
The women's team placed 14
th overall, despite entering the meet not ranked in the region. The Vandals narrowly edged Big Sky foe, Portland State, on the 6k course, 407-410. The men took 17
th on the 10k course with 515 points.
Kara Story was Idaho's top finisher on the women's side, placing 35
th overall with a time of 20:41.44.
Malaina Thacker and
Krista Story were next for the Vandals, in 79
th and 81
st, respectively. Thacker finished in 21:23.36, while
Krista Story was right behind at 21:24.09.
Andrea Condie was 104
th overall with a time of 21:39.85, and
Nathalia Campos rounded out the scorers in 118
th at 21:51.41.
On the men's side, a trio of Vandals finished in a pack to get the scoring started.
Dwain Stucker led the way in 83
rd at 31:12.06, but
Skylar Ovnicek (86
th) and
Fabian Cardenas (87
th) were right behind. Ovnicek finished with a time of 31:17.04, while Cardenas completed the course in 31:18.09.
Grayson Ollar was next for the Vandals in 129
th, with a time of 32:11.16.
Caleb Seely was the final scorer, placing 150
th at 32:40.59.
