MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho didn't get the result it wanted in the first game in the Cowan Spectrum this season, falling to Omaha, 89-80 to close out the non-conference home schedule.
THE GAME
Omaha got up by as many as 14 in the first half, but Idaho was able to battle back and make it a game at the break.
Trevon Allen got out to a tremendous start, scoring 12 points and grabbing four rebounds, but the Vandals trailed the Mavericks, 38-35, at the half.
The Mavericks came out hot in the second half, building their lead in the opening minutes. After trailing by as many as 18 points, the Vandals made their run with about five minutes to play.
RayQuawndis Mitchell knocked down his third triple of the night, followed by six straight points from
Geno West on a 3-ball and an and-1 to make it an eight-point ballgame with 3:43 to play. The shots stop falling from there, however, with Omaha maintaining its advantage for the next two minutes. Idaho was able to cut into the lead late, with both teams spending a lot of time at the free throw line, but was unable to get closer than five. The Vandals eventually fell, 89-80.
Trevon Allen led the Vandals with 15 points, while four others scored in double-figures. West and
Marquell Fraser each had 14, starting together for the first time. The Vandals outrebounded the Mavericks, 36-34.
