MOSCOW, Idaho – A 57-point second half made things interesting, but Idaho (3-10, 0-2) was unable to overcome a 25-point first half deficit, falling to Weber State (8-5, 2-0), 93-87, on Monday afternoon.
THE GAME
Weber State come out hot and never looked back. The Wildcats got up by 10 at 15-5 and maintained their double-digit advantage the rest of the frame, taking the 52-30 lead into the break.
Idaho flipped the script in the second. Not much changed over the first 10 minutes, with Weber State holding on to its 20-point advantage at 72-52. Idaho was able to chip away at the deficit over the next seven minutes, with
Cameron Tyson making it a nine-point game at 81-72 with 2:45 to play.
The Vandals kept up the pressure and were able to keep chipping away, eventually getting to within five points at 89-84 with 21 seconds to play, but ran out of time in the end.
Tyson finished the night with a game-high 27, going 6-of-12 from beyond the arc.
Trevon Allen added 24 points on 11-of-15 shooting, and
Jared Rodriguez chipped in with 19 points and four boards.
THE NAME
Cameron Tyson. Tyson scored seven points in the first half, coming off the bench for the first time in his career, then went off in the second. He scored 20 points in the second half, including 12 over the game's final 81 seconds.
Tyson shot 6-of-7 from the floor in the second half, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. He hit three 3's inside the game's final 81 seconds, including a 4-point play.
THE NOTES
Idaho moves to 3-10 on the season, 0-2 in Big Sky play. The Vandals are 0-2 in conference play for just the third time under
Don Verlin. The last time came during the 2016-17 season, with the Vandals going on to finish tied for third in the Big Sky at 12-6.
Tyson knocked down six more 3's. He has now hit six 3's in a game twice, and is the only true freshman Vandal ever to do so.
Tyson now has 46 triples on the season, one behind Connor Hill for the most ever by a freshman at Idaho. He also has 191 points on the year, and is just nine points away from becoming the 10
th freshman ever at Idaho to score 200 points.
