Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Vandals Clip Wildcats

OGDEN, Utah— Idaho (5-6, 2-0) led the majority of the game but felt the pressure in the fourth quarter in 79-74 win over Weber State (3-9, 0-2) at Dee Events Center on Monday.

THE GAME
Weber State jumped to a 5-2 lead two minutes into the game, but Idaho was not down for too long after going on a 10-3 run. The Vandals had a 16-9 advantage midway through the first, a lead Idaho would keep well into the second quarter. Going into the half, the Vandals led the Wildcats 37-24.

Both teams had a down third quarter as the Wildcats outscored the Vandals 15-11, but Idaho still had the edge on WSU ending the quarter, 48-39.

The fourth quarter was all Weber State, as they put together a comeback that cut the Vandals lead to four points early in the fourth. The Vandals worked the lead back to ten points, 67-57, but a 4-0 run by the Wildcats put the deficit back into single digits. From then on it was a free-throw shooting contest as the Vandals used free-throws and solid rebounding to finish out the game, 79-74.

THE NAMES
The Klinker Sisters: Lizzy Klinker and Natalie Klinker grabbed a combined 24 out of 45 rebounds for the Vandals. Natalie led all rebounders with a career-high of 15 rebounds, while Lizzy pulled down nine, also a career-best. Natalie added eight points (4-for-4 FG) and two blocks. Lizzy added six points.

THE QUOTE-- Jon Newlee
"They are really good. They are a scrappy team and they always play good at home. We had one of those nights where we couldn't make open shots. I was disappointed in that and I thought offensively early on we really had looks that usually we're making. I felt like we should have been up 20 at halftime and really cruising. Missing point blank shots at the rim and wide open 10 footers made things tougher than it needed to be a the end."

[Coach Newlee on Vandals performance from behind the arc]
"It's nice to be able to win a game when you're not making as many threes as we're used to doing, but if teams want to play us like that, it's fine because we have an inside presence this year. We can get the ball inside and are able to attack people in different ways. So I'm sure we're going to see a lot of this, a lot of other stuff. We'll go back home, make some adjustments and get ready for Eastern."

THE NOTES
-    The Vandals had a total of seven blocks, with Isabelle Hadden leading the way with a career-high five.
-    Mikayla led the Vandals with 26 points, four assists and a career-high four steals in 37 minutes. Taylor Pierce followed by adding 20 points, four boards and two steals on the night.

-    Vandals out-rebounded the Wildcats 45-38
