HOW IT HAPPENED
A slow start, then icy shooting found the Vandals in a rut in the first half against the University of Hawai'i. The Vandals, known for its prolific shooting from the three-point line, struggled to find the bottom of the net, shooting 24.2 percent (8-for-33) from long distance after not being able to hit a single triple in the first half. Hawai'i led the Vandals 35-27 going into halftime.
Idaho's offense came alive in the second half as Pierce sunk four triples in over 16 tries to cut the lead to five with seven minutes left in third. In over two minutes, the Vandals went on a 10-0 run after Pierce would score eight-straight points to help gave Idaho a five-point advantage and its largest lead, 45-40, over the 'Bows.
Heading into the fourth quarter, Idaho held onto a one-point, 47-46. However, Hawai'i quickly took back control of the game after going on an 11-0 run shifting the game back to a seven-point Hawai'i advantage, 54-47. Ferenz would catch rhythm late in the fourth with four made three-pointers, but it was not enough for a comeback.
The Vandals forced ten turnovers and were able to turn those into ten points. UH forced eight but scored 12 off of those. The free-throw line proves to be a consistent source of offensive for the Vandals as the team went 9-for-9 from the charity stripe.
