TEMPE, Ariz.—Nine student-athletes from the Idaho women's and men's tennis teams were honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association with the announcement of its annual All-Academic Teams and Scholar-Athlete award winners.
The Vandal women repeated as an All-Academic team. Idaho was one of five teams from the Big Sky to earn All-Academic status. The women also received six Scholar-Athlete Awards.
Maggie Chen,
Marta Magalhães ,
Maria Tavares,
Marianna Petrei,
Laura Spataro and
Shion Watabe were all honored as recipients. Petrei, Tavares and Watabe were also honored individually last season as well.
The Vandal men placed three student-athletes on the Scholar-Athlete list.
Mark Kovacs,
Estaban Santibanez and
Lucas Coutinho were each honored. All three student-athletes earned the honor in 2017.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
In all, 735 teams and 4,328 student-athletes across five divisions of college tennis were honored.
