ATLANTA—Idaho women's basketball enjoyed a successful season on the hardwood last season. To no one's surprise, the team also saw high levels of success in the classroom. Idaho's academic efforts were rewarded on Tuesday, ranking sixth in the NCAA D1 WBCA Academic Top 25 with a 3.691 GPA. 

"What a fantastic job by our team to achieve such an outstanding GPA," head coach Jon Newlee commented. "Winning championships and excelling in the classroom is what the Vandal women's basketball team is all about. I could not be more proud of this proud of awesome young ladies."

Idaho is the top-ranked Big Sky team featured in the rankings. Eastern Washington (T-18) and Northern Colorado (21) were also honored.

The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2017-18 season is the 23rd in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls. 

The announcement comes on the heels of the Big Sky Scholar-Athletes of the Year. Recently graduated senior Nejra Solo, was Idaho's female representative. Solo earned her bachelor's degree in molecular biology in the spring of 2017, finishing with a 3.82 GPA. She spent the 2017-18 academic year as a graduate student, posting a 4.0 GPA through two semesters of work toward a master's degree in plant pathology.  

On the court, the Vandals earned the No. 2 seed in the 2018 Big Sky Tournament. Idaho advanced to its second championship game in the last three seasons. The Vandals earned a postseason selection for the third consecutive season, earning a bid to the Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT).
