MOSCOW, Idaho – Preseason camp is underway for Idaho soccer, with just 15 days to opening day at Nevada on August 17.  First year head coach, Jeremy Clevenger, and the team took the field twice on Thursday, as the team tries to return to the top of the Big Sky.
 
"The team, from the start, showed tremendous effort," Clevenger said.  "I asked them from the beginning, 'I want to see hard work, intensity, and competitiveness,' and right away, the first two sessions, they've demonstrated that.  100 percent.  They've been a fun group to coach so far."
 
While the head coach is new, the majority of the roster is not.  The team returns 18-of-21 letterwinners from a season ago, including 10-of-11 starters, and the expectations are as high as ever.
 
"With a team of this talent, and the success in the past, I think we'll have championship aspirations in the back of our minds.  I think we still have a long way to go, and a lot of evaluation, but I think we'll continue to evaluate where we're going.  I just want to maximize this team's ability."
 
Your first chance to catch the Vandals is right around the corner, with the annual Silver & Gold game taking place on Sunday, August 5, at 2:30 p.m. in the Kibbie Dome.
 
The squad will take a quick trip down to Salt Lake City next week for an exhibition against Utah on Aug. 10, before returning home to face Central Washington in another exhibition, in the Dome on Aug. 14.
 
Regular season play begins on Friday, Aug. 17, at Nevada, before a trip to in-state rival, Boise State, on Aug. 19.  Idaho's home opener comes the following Friday, Aug. 24, against Grambling.
