MISSOULA, Mont. – The opening game of the Montana Invitational was one head coach
Jeremy Clevenger is sure to put behind him and the Vandals, falling to North Dakota, 1-0.
"We ran into a team that was well organized and that made it hard on us to break them down," Clevenger said. "In the box score we dominated. Outshot them two-to-one, same on corners, we just weren't able to put it in the back of the net. In a game like this it falls on us. We didn't get the job done. I think we beat ourselves, but it's a good lesson for us moving forward. We have to show up and understand how to beat teams."
North Dakota was able to take the lead in the 55
th minute, with Katie Moller getting in behind the Idaho defense and finishing for her third goal of the season.
Idaho dominated in the shots category, 13-6, but the teams were level with five shots on goal apiece.
"That's just more of us beating ourselves. Our execution, our decision making, our soccer smarts, weren't at the highest level. We just didn't have that quality that you need when you're a better team heading into a game."
Claire Johnson fired three shots on the day, providing some extra offense from the back line.
Makayla Presgrave made four saves in goal.
The Vandals are back in action on Sunday at 10 a.m. MDT when they take on Vermont at the Montana Invitational.
"The players have a game under their belt with the field conditions. We're going to go out and scout them here tonight, and get our team ready to go and healthy. We'll get refocused and work on some of those things that went wrong today.
