FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Idaho women's golf struggled down the stretch Monday, in the first round of the Colonel Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic to finish the day tied for eighth in the team standings. The Vandals shot 16-over (304), including 15-over as a team on the back nine, but remain just five shots out of third place and 11 back from the leader. The tournament continues Tuesday with the second round, with the third and final round set for Wednesday.
"We played the front nine pretty well today, but didn't finish as well as we know we can," said head coach
Lisa Johnson. "We put ourselves in tough position on the back nine and missed too many putts."
Sophie Hausmann led Idaho with a 2-over 74. Hausmann was 2-under at the turn, but carded five bogeys on the back nine after a bogey-free front nine. She is tied for 16th. Only five competitors shot under par in the first round.
Valeria Patino also sits in the top 25 after the first round. Patino's three-over 75 was good enough to tie for 22nd through 18 holes.
The Vandals will start the second round on the back nine Tuesday, beginning at 9 a.m. MT.
