MOSCOW, Idaho - New for fans attending Idaho home football games this year will be the Vandal Tailgate, located in the parking lot west of the Kibbie Dome, just beyond the powered RV spaces. The pregame gathering place will feature local food vendors, family-friendly activities and Vandal-themed entertainment. The Vandal Tailgate will open three hours prior to kickoff of each home game.
"The Vandal Tailgate is a new approach to ensuring the pregame experience is the most fun possible for fans of all ages," said Kathy Barnard, Executive Director of the U of I Alumni Association. "It focuses on great activities for kids and families, good food and proximity to everyone else gathering to celebrate the Vandals."
Local food vendors will provide Vandal fans with numerous dining choices at affordable prices. Participating companies and their offerings include:
- Pizza Perfection: serving pizza by the slice
- Hoof and Trotter: pulled pork sandwiches and sides
- Seasons Public House: hamburgers and hot dogs
- Papa's Espresso & Ice Cream: coffee drinks, ice cream cones and cookies
Earlier this year, the Idaho State Board of Education approved a proposal by the U of I to allow the consumption of alcohol at tailgating events. Fans are welcome to bring their own beverages, as long as they are held in an opaque container that is not labeled or branded by an alcohol manufacturer or distributor and remains in one of four designated university parking lots on the west end, including the lot where the Vandal Tailgate is located.
The Vandal Tailgate will debut Saturday, prior to Idaho's home opener against Western New Mexico. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m., and the Vandal Tailgate will open at 11 a.m.
