HONOLULU, Hawaii – The long road trip took its toll on Idaho volleyball, as they fell to undefeated Portland in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at the Outrigger Challenge.
Reece Carman led the vandals with 14 kills while hitting .429. As a team, The Vandals hit just .209 and committed nine service errors. Competition at the Outrigger Challenge concludes on Sunday for Hawaii and San Diego State.
Both teams took some time to get going in the first, as the squads traded points early on. The Vandals leveled the score at 18 late, but then Portland went on a 7-0 run to win the set 25-18.
The Pilots kept that momentum going into the second set and jumped out to a 6-1 lead. The Vandals would keep fighting to make things interesting late, but ultimately fell 25-19.
Again, Portland was strong to start and built a lead. The Vandals showed their heart and kept fighting, but eventually fell 25-15.
The Vandals will compete in the Fullerton Classic next weekend, closing out the non-conference portion of the season. Check back with GoVandals.com
