MOSCOW, Idaho— After helping the Vandals to a 2-0 start in Big Sky Conference play, senior
Mikayla Ferenz has been named Big Sky Ready Nutrition Player of the Week as announced by the league office Wednesday morning.
The Walla Walla, Wash. native, captured the weekly conference honor after being recognized nationally by College Sports Madness as mid-major conference player of the week on Monday. Today's recognition records her second player of the week honor this season and seventh in her career.
Ferenz helped the Vandals to two road wins, highlight by a win over in-state foe Idaho State in the ICCU Battle of the Domes series Saturday afternoon to tip off the conference season. The 5-10 guard posted 29 points on 53.3 percent shooting from the field, 42.9 percent from three-point range and 90.9 percent from the stripe. She also added six rebounds to her stat line. Against Weber State, Ferenz continued to be a scoring machine dropping 26 points with four steals and four assists. On the week, she averaged a total 27.5 points hitting almost half the shots she took from the field (48.5 percent).
For the season, Ferenz sits first in the Big Sky and ninth in the nation at 22.5 points per game. As she nears the 2,000 career points mark, Ferenz has scored in double-figures in all but one game on the year, ranking 30th in the nation and first in the league with 248 points. In 11 games, Ferenz's performance put her in the top 50 of six other NCAA statistical categories and first in sixth other conference categories.
The Vandals and Ferenz return to Moscow to host Eastern Washington Thursday at 5:15 p.m. inside Cowan Spectrum.
