Vandals Cruise Past Hornets

A balanced effort gives the Vandals a 104-66 victory over Sacramento State in record fashion

MOSCOW, Idaho--  Idaho women's basketball hits the century mark, and ties school record for most threes made in a game in 104-66 romp over Sacramento State Thursday night.
 
It was a balanced effort for the Vandals as five players scored in double-figures and all 11 players put up points in the dominant performance by the team. Mikayla Ferenz paced Idaho with 18 points and seven assists. Lizzy Klinker followed with a season-high 17 points while both Taylor Pierce and Gina Marxen tacked on 16 apiece. Isabelle Hadden added ten points and five rebounds.
 
THE GAME
Idaho jumped on top of the Hornets convincingly as they went on a 22-3 run early in first quarter. Idaho held the Hornets to nine points while totaling 32 points in the first ten minutes of play.
 
Already up 23 points, the next ten minutes was much of same in the second frame. With a lead by as many as 30 points in the quarter, the Vandals headed to the locker room with a comfortable 26-point advantage at the half.
 
The Hornets came out ready to chip away at their 57-31 deficit, but the Vandals hot streak did not cool off. Idaho outscored Sacramento State, 31-21, to maintain their lead at the end of the third, 88-52.
 
In the fourth, it was graduate transfer Juliet Jones who hit a triple to push the Vandals over the century mark with 1:40 left on the clock. Jones' three tied the all-time team record for three's made in a game as the Vandals defeated the Hornets 104-66.
 
THE NOTES
  • Five Vandals scored in double-figures.
  • Five Vandals shot at least 50 percent from the three.
  • Idaho out-rebounded Sacramento State, 54-48, with 19 offensive rebounds.
  • 19 offensive rebound is a team season-high for the Vandals.
  • Hailey Christopher grabbed a season-best 11 boards.
  • Vandals were 18-of-37 from 3FG, which 18 records the third time the Vandals have tied the school record of threes made in a game.
  • Vandals dished out 24 assists, a season-best.
