Idaho hosts Grand Canyon and Simon Fraser Saturday

Idaho vs Grand Canyon & Simon Fraser
Saturday January 26 | 11 a.m.
U of I Swim Center | Moscow, Idaho
FREE ADMISSION

Idaho women's swimming and diving will host a tri-dual Saturday, against Grand Canyon and Simon Fraser. The first event starts at 11 a.m., in the U of I Swim Center. This will be the Vandals' final home meet of the season, with 11 seniors being honored prior to the start of the meet.

The GCU and SFU men's teams will also participate, competing against each other. College of Idaho student-athletes will compete in the diving events.

ABOUT THE VANDALS: Idaho will celebrate the careers of 11 seniors prior to their final home meet: Emily Bruneel, Vivian Crow, Leah Fisk, Sarah Hall, Nikki Imanaka, Emily Kliewer, Janelle Lucas, Aileen Pannecoucke, Lauren Votava, Ana Walters and Erica King. The Vandals (1-6) are looking to knock of Grand Canyon for their first conference win of the season.

ABOUT THE ANTELOPES: Grand Canyon (4-7) is coming off a 170-101 loss against BYU two weeks ago. The Antelopes have finished fourth at each of the last two WAC Championships, just behind the Vandals.

ABOUT THE CLAN: Simon Fraser, located in Burnaby, British Columbia, competes at the NCAA Division II level. The Vandals and Clan went head-to-head at the Husky Invitational last month. Idaho won the team title, while SFU finished third.

HITTING HER STRIDE: Idaho senior Leah Fisk has won the 200-yard freestyle in four straight dual meets. Fisk, the defending WAC champion in the 200 freestyle, is looking to become the third Vandal swimmer to repeat as a conference champion and first since Rachel Millet (200 IM) and Jamie Sterbis (100 butterfly) both did so in 2013 and 2014. Fisk also finished in the top six last year in the 100-yard freestyle (third) and 500-yard freestyle (sixth). She currently ranks in the top 10 of the conference in all three events, including second in the 200.

STANDOUTS IN THE CLASSROOM: Idaho was honored as a Scholar All-America Team by the College Swim Coaches Association of America Tuesday, recognizing the program's work in the classroom during the fall 2018 semester. It is the 10th consecutive semester the Vandals have earned the distinction. Teams qualify for the CSCAA award by calculating the semester grade-point average of only those student-athlete who competed. Idaho checked in with a 3.62 GPA, 17th among all 194 Division I women's swimming and diving programs.

UP NEXT: The Vandals will close the regular season with a split squad effort. The swimmers will head to Oregon State and the divers will get an opportunity to train and compete platform, in addition to the springboard events, at the Lumberjack Spring Diving Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz. The WAC Championships will take place Feb. 27-March 2, in Houston.
