Idaho women's swimming and diving kicks off the 2019 portion of its schedule with a dual meet Monday, at New Mexico State. It is Idaho's first road dual meet of the year after hosting the first five, including their lone meeting with a Western Athletic Conference opponent thus far - a 154-146 loss against Northern Arizona, Nov. 3.

ABOUT THE AGGIES: New Mexico State is 1-3 in dual meet competition this season. Monday will be the latest installment of a budding rivalry between the Aggies and Vandals. Idaho has won the last two dual meets, including a road win two years ago, but New Mexico State has edged the Vandals at the WAC Championships. The teams have battled for second and third each of the last two years, with the Aggies prevailing by seven points in 2017 and 16 points last year.

WINTER TRAINING: Idaho has spent the last month getting back to the basics. The team improved through a grueling fall schedule with five dual meets and an invitational and little time to rest or regroup between them. After closing the 2018 competition calendar on a high note with the Husky Invitational team title, the rest of the year and the first week of January offered an opportunity to shift their focus back to being at their best for the Western Athletic Conference Championships (Feb. 27-March 2).

LAST TIME OUT: Idaho claimed the team title at the 70th Annual Husky Invitational, Nov. 30-Dec. 2. The Vandals relied on depth during the final day of competition, getting three scoring swims in four of the five individual events and two top-eight overall finishes in three of them, to jump from second to first. Brianna Lucien led the way with the fourth-fastest 400 IM and seventh-fastest 1650 freestyle in program history.

UP NEXT: Idaho's next meet will be Jan. 19, at WAC opponent Northern Colorado. The Vandals will close out the month on Jan. 26, with a home tri-dual against Grand Canyon and Simon Fraser.
