BIG SKY: Idaho currently sits in second in the Big Sky standings as we approach the midway point of conference play. The Vandals are currently 6-2, and trail only the Bears of Northern Colorado (8-0). Idaho will get another shot at UNC later in the season, when the Bears come to Moscow on Nov. 15.
Â
BIG SKY STATS: Kyra Palmbush leads the Big Sky in blocks per set in conference play, by a wide margin. She is currently averaging 1.44 blocks per set, 21 percent more than Montana State's Kelsie White in second (1.19). As a team, Idaho leads the league in blocks at 3.08 per set, and is second in hitting percentage at .239.
Â
HOME SWEET HOME: Idaho got out to a slow start to the home schedule as the young squad worked to get up to speed. Since then, the Vandals are 4-0 in Memorial Gym, and have dropped just four total sets. More impressive still is the way they're closing things out. In its last four home matches, Idaho is winning the deciding set by an average of nearly eight points, including a 25-14 fourth-set win over NAU last week.
Â
DEFENDING CHAMPS: Idaho tied for the conference lead last season, earning its first Big Sky Championship since rejoining the league. The Vandals finished the regular season at 15-3 and took the No. 2 seed into the Big Sky Tournament.
Â
NEXT: Idaho will hit the road next week to take on Sacramento State and Portland State. The Vandals defeated the Hornets and the Vikings in Moscow to open conference play in late September.
