SCOUTING IDAHO
Plenty of familiar faces will be on display when the Idaho women's basketball team takes the court on Friday. The Vandals return nine players from last year's Big Sky Regular Season Championship team, including five upper classman.
Headlining Idaho's group of returners is sophomore
Gina Marxen, the 2018-19 Big Sky Freshman of the Year, and a Preseason All-Conference selection. Marxen averaged 8.6 points per game last season to go along with a team-high 3.9 assists per game. Joining Marxen are sisters Lizzy and
Natalie Klinker, who are the Vandals returning leading scorer and rebounder, respectively. Lizzy averaged 9.3 points per game last season, former Vandal standouts
Mikayla Ferenz and
Taylor Pierce. Natalie was a dominant force in the post last season, registering a team-high 7.8 rebounds per game.
Along with
Natalie Klinker and Marxen, senior
Isabelle Hadden returns as one of the Vandals three returners who played in all 34 games a year ago.
There are new faces on the Vandals roster this season, in four newcomers, three of which are freshman.
Idaho was picked to finish second in the Big Sky Conference by both the Coaches' and Media Polls.
SCOUTING LEWIS-CLARK STATE COLLEGE
Lewis-Clark State enters its second exhibition of the season and third game of the season, 1-0 after a 105-42 win over Yellowstone Christian College last week. The Warriors traveled to Missoula, Montana last Friday for an exhibition matchup against the Montana Grizzlies, falling 81-69.
The Warriors finished 22-12 last season with a trip to the NAIA National Quarterfinal.
Through one game this season, Kiara Burlage and Jamie Nielson lead the way offensively with 20 and 16 points per game, respectively.
The NAIA Warriors were picked to finish fourth in their final season in the Frontier Conference. Lewis-Clark also received one first place vote in the preseason poll.
LAST TIME OUT
Idaho last faced the Warriors during the 2018-19 season during an exhibition matchup in Memorial Gym. The Vandals topped Lewis-Clark 97-55.
