Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Five score in double figures as Vandals blast Wolves, 100-50

MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho men's basketball team eased by Walla Walla University on Saturday evening, 100-50. Despite being shorthanded, the Vandals (3-3) led 52-24 at the half and never looked back.

THE GAME
The Vandals used their size to their advantage, taking control early. The home team led, 25-10, with just under eight minutes to play in the first half, and slowly pushed out their lead to 28 points at the break. Idaho had a balanced attack in the first period, with Scott Blakney leading with 10 points, and four others with at least eight.

Idaho continued to push their advantage in the second half, never feeling threatened by the visiting Wolves. They led by as many as 52 points.

Damen Thacker led the Vandals with 24 points, while Chance Garvin had 21, and BJ Simmons chipped in 18 points. All three players recorded new career highs. Quinton Forrest tallied his second double-double of the season, scoring 11 points and pulling down 14 rebounds, including pulling down four on the offensive boards.

THE NOTES
Idaho scored at least 50 points in the first half for the first time since the team scored 50 against West Coast Baptist November 27, 2018.

The Vandals had just three first half turnovers and finished with eight turnovers, improving their already conference leading stat.

Four Vandals reached double figure scoring. It was the second time this season that four players scored at least 10 (Evergreen State, Nov. 5).

Every Vandal that played in Saturday' game scored.

Both Chance Garvin and Damen Thacker finished with over 20 points. It was the first time two Idaho players eclipsed 20 points in a game since December 31, 2018 (vs. Weber State).

The Vandals got to 100 points for the first time since beating George Fox 101-62 in 2017 (11/13).

Saturday's game featured just the second different staring lineup for the Vandals this year.
