Petrino Earns ROOT Sports Big Sky Honors

FARMINGTON, Utah – After an historic final game in the silver and gold, quarterback Mason Petrino has been named the ROOT Sports Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week.

Petrino led the Vandals to the 60-53 overtime victory at Northern Arizona on Saturday.  He finished the game 36-of-43 for 498 yards in the air and six touchdowns.  He added 65 yards and a score on the ground as well.

His six touchdowns tie the program record.  He joins a list of 12 others, most recently Brian Lindgren in 2002.  Petrino's 498 yards in the air is good enough for the fourth most in program history.

Petrino's completion percentage of 83.7 was the third highest in a single game in Idaho history, with a minimum of 20 attempts.  It is the highest completion percentage in program history by a quarterback who attempted at least 35 passes.  Petrino wraps up his career with a completion percentage of 62.3, the best in program history.

His 563 yards of total offense are the second most in program history.  Brian Lindgren finished with 657 yards of total offense against Middle Tennessee State in 2001.

Petrino was also named the College Sports Madness Offensive Player of the Week.
