MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals welcome Washington State University for the Battle of the Palouse on Wednesday evening in Cowan Spectrum.
THE BATTLE
Idaho has won three of the last five games in the annual Battle of the Palouse against Washington State. In the last meeting in Moscow (Dec. 6, 2017), Idaho beat WSU, 91-64. The Battle of the Palouse is the longest continuously running college basketball rivalry West of the Mississippi River, beginning in the 1905-06 season. This season sees both programs under new head coaches, with
Zac Claus taking over Idaho as interim head coach, and Kyle Smith taking the helm at WSU.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS (3-4): WSU has begun the season 3-4, most recently falling to Colorado State, 79-69. The team has lost three of its last four games. Against the Rams, the Cougs were led by CJ Elleby who had 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, and a block. Jeff Pollard also chipped in 16 points, while two others reached double digits.
As a squad, WSU scores 71.7 points per game. Elleby averages 21.6 ppg and 6.1 rpg, both of which lead the Cougs.
LAST TIME OUT: The Vandals fell at Seattle U, 74-55. A short-handed Idaho team was tied with the Redhawks at halftime, before the home side pulled out the victory.
Quinton Forrest recorded a double-double with 14 points and 12 boards to lead the Vandals.
SERIES HISTORY: This will be the 115th year in which the Vandals and Cougs will meet. WSU leads the all-time series, 164-110.
SAAC FOOD DRIVE: Idaho SAAC will be sponsoring a food drive for the game against WSU. If a fan brings two non-perishable items, they will receive a discount on their ticket into the game against Washington State. All food collected will be donated to Palouse Cares.
