Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. -The University of Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball Team defeated the University of San Diego Toreros Wednesday night, 65-32. The Vandals' 33-point win is the largest margin of victory this season. Idaho began the game on a 7-0 run and cruised to a 20-point lead at halftime. Mid-way through the third quarter Idaho led by as many as 37 points, the largest of the game.
Lizzy Klinker led the Vandals in scoring with 20 points including 14 points in the first half.
Gina Marxen and
Beyonce Bea each scored in double-figures with 12 and 11, respectively. Klinker also led Idaho on the boards with nine, one shy of a double-double.
THE GAME
Idaho took the lead early over the Toreros with a 7-0 run to begin the game.
Gina Marxen opened the scoring with a layup and a three-pointer in the first 1:03 of play.
The Vandals carried a 17-10 lead in to the second quarter and outscored the Toreros 19-6. A three-pointer from
Beyonce Bea extended the Vandals lead over San Diego early in the period and began a 9-2 run. The Toreros stopped the scoring run briefly, however another 9-2 run to end the quarter gave Idaho a 36-16 lead at halftime.
Lizzy Klinker poured on 14 points in the first half on 6-7 shooting from the floor.
Out of halftime the Vandals picked up where they left off, opening on an 11-2 run, beginning with a
Chayse Milne layup. Idaho outscored San Diego 20-7 in the third to carry a 56-23-point lead in to the fourth. Midway through the third a jumper from
Caitlyn Jones gave Idaho a 37-point lead, 56-19, the largest of the night.
The Vandals would only score nine points in the final quarter, but it was enough to get the win, 65-32.
THE NOTES
Idaho finished 25-57 from the field, shooting a season-high 43.9 percent from the floor. Defensively, the Vandals held San Diego to its worst shooting night of the season at 10-63, just 15.9 percent from the floor.
Idaho has defended well on the perimeter throughout the season and that trend continued tonight as the Toreros shot just 12.5 percent from beyond-the-arc on 3-24 shooting. The Vandals finished 6-19 from three, shooting 31.6 percent.
The Vandal's inside scoring presence was a big advantage, outscoring San Diego 32-12 in the paint.
Idaho forced San Diego in to 17 turnovers and outrebounded them 40-37.
There were no lead changes in the game as Idaho led from the opening tip.

THE NAME
Lizzy Klinkler scored a team-high and season-high 20 points. The senior also grabbed nine rebounds, one away from a double-double. Klinker was an absolute force in the first half with 14 points on 6-7 shooting. The Fairfield, Montana native finished 8-11 from the floor and also dished out two assists.
