PORTLAND, Ore — Already Idaho's top scorer,
Mikayla Ferenz scored 14 points to become the Big Sky's all-time leading scorer with 2,298 career points, and Idaho topped Portland State 81-68 on the road in Thursday's nightcap.
Idaho's triumph was a team effort as five Vandals scored in double figures.
Taylor Pierce paced the Vandals with 22 points, while
Gina Marxen added an impressive 17 points and four assists.
Lizzy Klinker and
Isabelle Hadden both tacked on 12 and 10 points, respectively. Ferenz dished out eight assists to go with her 14 points.
THE GAME
Idaho took a quick 12-0 lead early in the first quarter, but the Vikings soon answered back with 12 points tying the game 14-14 with 45 seconds left in the quarter. Idaho left the first half with an eight-point lead, 38-30.
In the third frame, the Vikings erased Idaho's eight-point lead to claim a one-point advantage over the Vandals, 45-44. From then on the lead changed three more times before Idaho regained the lead for good, 59-52 going into the final quarter.
Idaho owned the fourth quarter, increasing their lead by as many as 16 points and ended up stealing the win in Viking territory, 81-68.
