OGDEN, Utah – Idaho hurdler
Mack Baxter has been recognized by the Big Sky Conference as the Male Track Athlete of the Week, as announced on Monday.
Baxter won the 400-meter hurdles at the Sam Adams Classic in Spokane last week, as the Vandals opened up the outdoor portion of the season. His time of 53.09 seconds was 1.66 seconds faster than his closest competition.
Baxter now ranks first in the Big Sky in the event, and is better than 1.50 seconds faster than second. He also ranks 47
th in the NCAA, and 20
th in the West.
He is no stranger to leading the conference in the 400-meter hurdles, as Baxter won the event at the outdoor championships in 2017, before redshirting the outdoor season last year. That year, Baxter advanced to the NCAA Championships First Round in Austin, Texas, after running a personal-best time of 51.98 seconds at the OSU High Performance Meet late in the season.
