RESULTS
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Another day, another great showing for Idaho track and field, this time at the Mondo Team Challenge in Sacramento. Both teams placed second overall, with the men narrowly falling to Sacramento State, 114-113. The women also defeated UC Riverside and finished second to Sacramento State, 157-95.
Chloe Woest won the pole vault with a new personal best of 3.66 meters (12-0.00) to move into second in the conference standings.
Zachary Short set a new meet record and personal-best in the discus to win the event, throwing 53.54 meters (175-8). Short also won the shot put with a throw of 18.26 meters (59-11.00) to move into first in the Big Sky rankings this season.
Robby Van Idour placed third at 14.39 meters (47-2.50).
The Vandal women took four of the top five spots in the 1500-meters.
Malaina Thacker won the event in 4:32.00, setting a new PR.
Kara Story was close behind in second at 4:32.96. The men also took the top two spots, with
Fabian Cardenas winning in 3:53.32 and
Ben Shaw taking second in 3:53.94. Both move into the top-6 in the Big Sky in the event.
Thacker also won the 3000-meter steeplechase, moving into second in the Big Sky in the event with a time of 10:57.71.
Kaleala Bass and
Anna Pecha took the top two spots in the 800-meters. Bass won the event in 2:12.97, while Pecha took second in 2:18.98. Bass moves into the top-three in the Big Sky in the event.
Jenner Higgins and
Nathan Burton took the top two spots on the men's side. Higgins led at 1:54.13, while Burton placed second at 1:54.41. Both move into the top-three in the Big Sky.
Austin Beyer won the javelin competition with a throw of 63.90 meters (209-8). Beyer now sits in second in the Big Sky.
Mack Baxter won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.18 seconds. He currently leads the Big Sky in the event.
Zachary Nunis moved into first in the Big Sky in the long jump, winning the event with a leap of 7.42 meters (24-4.25).
Henrike Fiedler took first on the women's side with a leap of 5.80 meters (19-0.50).
Makenna Behrens won the javelin on the female side, finishing with a throw of 38.56 meters (126-6).
Kaizer Gillispie ran the fastest 400-meter time in the Big Sky this season, finishing second overall at 48.67 seconds.
Hannah Ringel had a solid day in a pair of events. She placed second in the shot put with a toss of 14.07 meters (46-2.00) and took fourth in the hammer throw with a personal-best throw of 45.74 meters (150-1).
Cullen Williams set a PR in the hammer throw on the men's side, at 54.06 meters (177-4), finishing second. Williams also placed third in the discus at 43.30 meters (142-1).
Britt Ipsen cleared 1.98 meters (6-6.00) to finish second in the high jump.
Jonny Magee earned second in the triple jump at 14.50 meters (47-7.00).
Aaryanna Kurucz placed second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:03.29.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Baxter,
Cole Alteneder,
Nik Chappee and Gillispie placed second with a Big Sky-leading time of 3:15.33.
