BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - Sophie Hausmann finished sixth at the Bryan National Collegiate Invitational, shooting 3-under for the tournament. Idaho women's golf took 11th as a team. Hausmann posted an even-par 72 in the final round Sunday, and was the top finisher from outside the state of North Carolina. Tournament-host Wake Forest won the event by 32 strokes and featured the top four finishers.
Hausmann made her move in the second round Saturday, with a 4-under 68, and held on for her eighth top-10 finish in 10 events this season. The Idaho senior entered the week ranked No. 73 in the latest GolfStat Rankings, one of 13 women in the GolfStat top 100 competing at the Bryan National. Hausmann finished better than nine of them, including five who were ranked ahead of her. Three of Wake Forest's top four finishers were nationally ranked. The 12th-ranked Demon Deacons were one of six top-50 teams in the field.Â
Michelle Kim rebounded from a tough first round to finish with consecutive strong rounds. Kim shot a 1-over 73 in the final round to move up 12 spots and finish in a tie for 57th at 13-over. She carded a 74 in the second round to move up 16 places following a first-round 82.
Valeria Patino was Idaho's second finisher, tying for 33rd. Patino opened the tournament with an even-par 72, the Vandals' best score of the day. She shot a 75 Saturday, followed by a 77 in the final round.
The tournament marks the end of the regular season for Idaho. The Vandals will defend their Big Sky Tournament title April 19-21, near Las Vegas.
Hausmann will remain on the east coast this week to participate in the Augusta National Women's Amateur. The 72-player invitation-only field features the top female amateur golfers in the world. The event takes place April 3-6, at Champions Retreat Golf Club and Augusta National. The first two rounds will be played Wednesday and Thursday, at Champions Retreat. The entire field will play a practice round Friday, at Augusta National, before the top 30 competitors from the first two rounds play the final round on the esteemed course that will host The Masters the following week.
