POCATELLO, Idaho – Idaho's regular season came to a close with a loss on Saturday night, falling at Idaho State 70-68 in the ICCU Battle of the Domes. Next up for the Vandals is the 2019 Big Sky Championship presented by My Place Hotels in Boise.
THE GAME
The Vandals were tremendous from beyond the arc in the first half. Both teams made eight 3-pointers, but Idaho needed just 12 attempts to 23 by ISU. The Vandals were efficient offensively, using
Jared Rodriguez and
Trevon Allen down the stretch to secure at 45-34 advantage at the break.
Idaho kept things going in the early portion of the second half and eventually got up by as many as 16 points at 51-35. Idaho State mounted a run from there, chipping away over the remainder of the half and eventually claiming a lead inside the final two minutes.
Idaho had the ball, down two points, with less than 30 seconds to play.
Trevon Allen was fouled on his drive to the basket, but his second free throw came off the iron. The Vandals got one more chance after the Bengals went 1-of-2 at the line, but Allen's last second shot came up short. Idaho State took the come-from-behind win, 70-68.
THE NAME
Khadim Samb. Samb scored a career-high 11 points and grabbed five rebounds, tying his career-high. He went 4-of-5 from the floor, and knocked down his only 3-point attempt.
THE NOTES
Idaho falls to 5-26 on the season, including 2-18 in Big Sky play. Idaho State moves to 11-18, 7-13 in Big Sky play.
Jared Rodriguez dished out a career-high four assists. He added 14 points and six rebounds.
Cameron Tyson moves to second in program history in single-season 3's, passing
Victor Sanders (2016-17). Tyson now has 102 3-pointers on the season.
The Vandals committed just seven turnovers, their fewest in a game since the first Big Sky game of the year, also against Idaho State.

The Vandals open up Big Sky Tournament play at approximately 1:30 p.m. Pacific, against No. 6 Montana State, on Wednesday in Boise.
