OGDEN, Utah - Idaho senior
Sophie Hausmann was named Big Sky Women's Co-Golfer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday. Hausmann took sixth at the Bryan National Collegiate, followed by an appearance at the Augusta National Women's Amateur. This is her eighth career Big Sky weekly award and third of the season. She shared this week's honor with Beah Cruz from Northern Colorado.
Hausmann finished 3-under at the Bryan National Collegiate, hosted by Wak Forest, better than nine top-100 competitors in a field that featured six top-50 teams. She was the top finisher from outside the state of North Carolina. She then took part in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur, where she finished tied for 46th in an elite field. The field of 72 was comprised of the top amateur women in the world. Hausmann missed the cut after two rounds at Champions Retreat Golf Club, but was able to play an official practice round at Augusta National Friday, before the top 30 players played the final round Saturday on the famed course.
After her showing at the Bryan National, Hausmann jumped 20 spots in the GolfStat national rankings. This week she checks in at No. 55. She is the only woman from the Big Sky in the top 100.
Hausmann and her Idaho teammates are finishing preparations to defend their Big Sky Conference Championship title. The tournament is set for April 19-21, at Boulder Creek Golf Club near Las Vegas. The Vandals won the crown last year in record-setting fashion, posting the best total and single-round scores in tournament history. Hausmann will be seeking her third individual Big Sky championship. She won as a freshman in 2016, and again last season.
