QUERETARO, Mexico – Idaho track and field's 
Zachary Short competed for Honduras over the weekend at the 2019 North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) U23 Championships in Mexico.  Short took third overall in the shot put with a throw of 18.34 meters (60-2).
 
Short's best throw was his second.  He also broke 18 meters on his third throw.  Jordan Geist, of the University of Arizona and representing Team USA, won with a meet-record throw of 20.81 meters (68-3.75).
 
An accomplished international athlete, Short already holds three national records for Honduras.  His outdoor personal best of 18.80 meters in the shot put is a national record, as is his PR of 53.54 meters in the discus.  Short also owns the national record in the javelin, dating back to high school.
 
Short had an excellent junior season with the Vandals.  He won the shot put competition at the 2019 Big Sky Indoor Track and Field Championships with a conference-record mark, and earned All-America Second Team honors at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.  He took home silver at the Big Sky Outdoor Championships, and advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Preliminary Rounds for the second consecutive year.
