The Vandals celebrated Halloween 2009 with a scary start against the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech. Despite returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown, Idaho found itself trailing 21-7 after the first quarter, and 28-14 at the break.
"Our heads weren't in it, I guess," said defensive end Aaron Lavarias, who tallied one sack and three tackles for loss in his eight stops. "Luckily, we screwed them back on for the second half and got it done."
From there, the Vandals locked in for the Homecoming crowd of better than 15,000, ultimately taking the win on a DeMaundray Woolridge score with 52 seconds to play.
"Epic," said Lavarias. "That's the word I would use to describe it. If feels great. Homecoming - in front of all the fans. I couldn't think of a better way to end it - except maybe us winning by 50 or something like that. This was a sweet victory for sure."
The win moved the Vandals to 7-2 on the season, including 4-1 in Western Athletic Conference play. Idaho would go on to win the Humanitarian Bowl that season, also in dramatic fashion.
Relive all the action beginning at noon Pacific on Saturday, Oct. 31.
