MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho men's basketball has announced the addition of Yusef Salih who will join the Vandals' squad for the 2021-22 season.
Â
"We are thrilled to welcome Yusef to our program. He is a terrific young man with a wonderful maturity about him that was readily apparent in our recruitment of him," said head coach
Zac Claus. "Yusef is incredibly driven and we are confident that he will have a meaningful impact here at Idaho."
Â
Salih will come to Idaho from Highland School in Warrenton, Virginia. He helped lead the Hawks to a 28-3 overall record in 2019-20, including a 12-0 record in conference play. The team won the Delaney Athletic Conference tournament and advanced to the final four of the state tournament, which was the furthest the team had ever made it. Highland School finished the regular season ranked second in the state, the highest ranking in school history.
Â
Individually, Salih averaged 14.5 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, 4.1 assists per game, and 2.3 assists per game during the 2019-20 season. He was named First Team All-Conference.
Â
Salih is strong in the classroom as well, being named an Honor Roll recipient.
Â
"Yusef has been a pleasure to coach at Highland and he is certainly a main reason for a record-breaking season last year. He is a winner and competes on every possession on both ends of the floor. He is really fun to watch because he makes a lot of winning plays. Yusef has been one of the most focused players that I have ever had the pleasure of coaching. He came to Highland with goals of making our program one of the best teams in the state of Virginia and to earn a Division I scholarship. I am glad to say that he has accomplished both of these goals," said Highland School head coach Brian Hooker.
Â
Salih is the son of Eiman and Dean Salih.
